Fine Wines. Organic Vines. 5 PINOT GRIS LOS CARNEROS RSVs Pinot Gris is a wine made with a light touch. Its always about growing it well and not messing it up in the cellar. As winegrowers RSV nurtures every grape for every wine selecting the sites that best express the inherent character of the chosen variety. The Three Amigos Vineyard is ideal for Pinot Gris. The cool Carneros maritime climate with its long dry growing season produces physiologically ripe grapes while maintaining good natural acidity. RSV chooses to whole cluster press this wine where the absence of skin contact results in an ethereal quality. This pale gold Pinot Gris has some weight and richness on the mid-palate yet it remains clean and refreshing on the finish. It is non-cerebral yet complex at the same time offering youthful enthusiasm before evolving into a thought-provoking array of mineral and spice flavors and aromas as it ages. VIN GRIS OF PINOT NOIR LOS CARNEROS The challenge twenty-five years ago no one wanted a dry ros. Conspicuous wine drinkers had preconceptions that all pink wines were low-class White Zin. Sweet pink wine may have been a cash cow for some but the European dry style was suffering from pigmentation association. RSV decided to take this challenge head on by making a whole cluster pressed Ros of Pinot Noir from RSVs organically farmed Carneros Vineyards. This wine is never a saigne where juice from fermenting red grapes is bled off to make a ros but instead is made from the free-run juice of prime Pinot Noir. It took a leap of faith and a little perseverance to find people who enjoyed RSVs New World meets Old World style of Vin Gris. Fortunately an audience found us. The Vin Gris is now the most difficult wine to keep in RSVs cellar.
